_ Md Riley Cries For Peace In Kwekwe On New Track ‘City Of Gold’.
By CtO Banks
Media student at Midlands State University Munyaradzi Dhure who is also popularly known as Md Riley from Kwekwe, has just released a new song and it’s titled ‘City Of Gold’-Mabhemba.
His new single is just not an ordinary song, and it’s also something new from Md Riley as an artist, and l believe it’s the first step in the right direction. As an artist he is known to make songs about his personal life such as his Love affairs, and how expensive he lives and parties.
The song talks about something totally different from all other concepts he has ever used, and it’s a song anyone from Kwekwe can relate to. He will be preaching peace in the city of gold, he is crying for no more bloodshed and violence amongst the illegal small scale miners, who at times make innocent civilians, get in cross fire of their violence.
Kwekwe is a mining town which sits the Great Dyke so gold miners are plenty there, despite `makorokoza` (gold miners) from Kwekwe, there are others from Shurugwi, Kadoma and Zhombe who also visits the shafts. Since these small scale miners are not licenced or registered they all do illegal mining in groups depending with where they come from.
“Their violence now scares Kwekwe citizens in particular those who resides in Mbizo Amaveni, Torwood and Rutendo. The killings and stabbing of each other usually rise when new shafts of gold are discovered for example the ‘Gaika’ shaft blew and there was too much bloodshed, and it inspired me to write this song.”
“So they slaughter each other to take stuff (mavhu before mill) even at clubs at night after working in the mines, they take out their frustration on civilians and use them as punching bags which is a real bad thing. So i had to express how Kwekwe became an unsafe zone,” said Md Riley.
The beat for the track was produced by Md himself and it was recorded, mixed and mastered by Dj Themba Remember.
