Controversy Revolves Around The Glamour Awards Nominations.
By CtO Banks
Much controversy surrounding some of the nominations for the 2018 Glamour Awards to be held in Gweru on the 24th of November.
A clendastine approach as some artist have been mixed with genres that are not in conjuction with each other. A sample list was leaked on the 25th of October which showed Takura leading the pack with 6 nominations. Along side him are house hold names such as Dj tamuka and the fast rising hip hop star Crooger.
For the first time in Zimbabwe, the glamour award have included a category to honour previous albums released by artists and also a category to honour music video directors and writters. However, some of the nominees have been deemed controversial due to their relationships with the director of the Glamour Awards, Albert Chigiya also known as Prince Albert.
His social profiles especially instagram clearly shows that he is an avid fan of Takura, Ric Chasers, Dj Tamuka, KvG royalty, CalVin Asaph amd many more. This has led to questions arising from entities such as the National Arts Council who question if he had any influence over the nominees.
Prince Albert has also been accused in the past for politicising The Glamour Awards when he was pictured talking to the Secretary for Youth Affairs Lewis Matutu. Foreign investors such as Russian Bear and Halls have shown huge interets in the youth award and rumours have speculated that Universal Music South Africa is looking forward to push Zim Artists through the Glamour Awards and a record lable which will sit on a USD $100 000 and a 3 year contract.
_Most lables have raised major concerns over this postulating that the director might only push the artists that he favours instead of the whole Zim roaster.
A hip hop artist called Prince Albert out on the Glam Awards instagram page (@theglamawards) saying that he does not respond to calls and ignores “groundroots” artists and focuses more on established artists which will be a huge problem if the Universal Music deal is struck between them and the Glamour awards.
However a lot of stakeholders have commended the glamour awards saying its a ground breaking platform for the youths of Zimbabwe to excell on their talents and also earn a living through them.
